Like other RTS titles, the Northland retain the basic elements of gameplay in Cultures 2, as a role of "God-Sim", your job to control a population of Vikings. The growth, development and technology of this society are dependent on you. Elimination of their enemies and acting as their leader and guide on their vision quest is also up to you. Each units in Northland is an individual, has a name, can marry and produce children that grow to repeat the cycle and insure the growth of the village. The citizens are assigned a trade and can be re-appointed and given a different career or path in their life. The buildings in the world are their residence and where they apply their trade to produce products for their fellow Vikings. You are responsible for watching over and assigning professions to your Viking civilians and building their culture up, like assign tasks such as resource gathering (wood, clay, etc), hunting, and building. You also need to tell your Vikings where to work and what to build (dwellings, farms, mills, etc) and where to build it. Lastly, you also tell them when to eat, sleep, pray, get married, where to live, and when to have children and even what sex to have. Basically, you control every aspect of the game from start to finish, and the overall success of your people lies mainly on you
